Unit Testing Workshop in November
I'm running a Unit Testing Workshop in November. Come join us!
Anton did a I short LUnit and Approval Testing Intro workshop at GDevCon in Stuttgart. It went well. We had 6 attendees in person along with several people participating over Zoom. We covered the basics of LUnit and LMock and then did some basic Approvals examples. It took about 4 hours.
I have a much longer and in-depth Unit Testing workshop I'll be running in November. It's 2 days with two 3 hour Zoom sessions each day. It is much more in depth and has many more examples and exercises than what Anton and I did. Each session will consist of a mix of lectures and hands-on exercises.
The workshop has a little something for everyone.
- If you are a beginner, you'll learn why unit testing is important and all the benefits you can get from it. You'll get lots of practice writing simple tests.
- If you have played with unit testing, but struggled or got discouraged, you'll learn how to write testable code and how to write tests for tough legacy code.
- If you are already writing tests regularly, you'll learn how to maintain them, keep them organized, and run them programmatically. You'll also learn how to use LUnit to measure code coverage and detect slow tests.
You can see the agenda here. I am going to revamp it a little bit. It's been a little while since I've taught it and since then I've moved from VI Tester to LUnit, so some things will definitely change. I've also learned a lot about teaching and learning since then as well, so that will also lead to some curriculum changes. The general layout and topics will be very similar to what is on the website.
